30Y.30L: Behind the Design

While conducting my tours and interviews for the 30Y.30L campaign, several people have inquired about the library featured on my various custom shirts -- the same images in which I have used on this blog. I didn't have an answer so I asked graphic designer, Andy Thompson; however, first, I'd like to explain the idea behind the design...

Back in early November, when I first contacted Andy, I explained the project and provided a few ideas to get him started:
  • I love posters by Chris Van Allsburg.
  • Carnegie libraries fascinate me.
  • I like the retro look.
  • Colors: green, maroon or burgundy, brown, and gray...
And the answer to your question:

Because I didn't cite a specific library, Andy did a Google search for "Carnegie Libraries" and found the Tampa Free Public Library among the search results.

And the rest is history...

Thank you, Andy, for your creativity and time!
